Grand Master Syed Zulfigar Ahmed has lived a life dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the Martial Arts. He has amassed high acclaim and recognition as an accomplished world-class competitor, a superior martial arts educator and most notably is the founder and designer of the internationally recognized and renowned style, Bushi Ban.

Born in Karachi, Pakistan, his journey into the martial arts began at the age of 9, where he would one day open his first school. He taught there until he migrated to the United States in 1985 to pursue higher education, attending Bernard M. Baruch College of Business in New York City, eventually settling in Houston, Texas.

He has over 45 years of martial arts experience and has earned over 300 martial arts awards. Some of the most notable including the 1993 NBL World Traditional Weapons title, and the 1992 USKA Open Forms World Title. He has been inducted into eleven different Martial Arts halls of fame and was selected to be on the Pakistani National Tae Kwon Do Olympic Team.

Bushi Ban International, headquartered in Pasadena, Texas, USA, offers a complete martial arts system that utilizes a sound, time-proven traditional foundation merged with contemporary martial arts principles. Bushi Ban International has served to improve the lives of thousands of its members through programs promoting principled Black Belt excellence and Life Mastery.

The Bushi Ban Martial Arts System is a non-linear collaboration of styles, developed through a unique integration of many martial arts disciplines that have been acquired during a lifetime of study and training with some of the world’s most respected practitioners. Although having many mentors from across the globe over the years, one man who has mentored him throughout his lifetime is Great Grandmaster Dr. Maung Gyi, founder of the American Bando Association.

It all began with Burmese Bando, a system originating from Myanmar. He studied Pakistani Indian wrestling as a young man and has gone on to study Naban, Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, Shotokan karate, Judo, Tae Kwon Do, kickboxing and many other martial art disciplines. The Bushi Ban system of martial arts incorporates some of the best techniques and disciplines from countries such as Pakistan, Korea, Thailand, Mongolia, Japan, Brazil and America, and from his travels to the Philippines, Nepal, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shri Lanka and many others; always learning, always a student of the world of martial arts.
